Hayes Pump History Timeline

Pre 1980

Hayes Pump and Machinery Company was founded by Frank Hayes in 1898. They opened their first office in Boston in 1915, representing several well-known suppliers of pumps, air compressors, and engines. By the early 1950s, Hayes had emerged as the leader in the pump field in New England.

1980’s

In early 1980, a group headed by J. Craig Huff, Jr. commenced discussions with the owners of Hayes Pump and Machinery Company. These led to a successful conclusion and in October 1980 the former owner sold the assets of the business to a newly formed corporation using the same name. Late in 1980 the operations of Hayes were moved to a new, 17,000 square foot building about 300 yards away from its former quarters.

In 1986 Hayes formed an association with P. J. Murdock of Portland, Maine and thereby expanded its representation in that area. In early 1988 the company acquired Cardinal Pump of Glastonbury, Connecticut in order to broaden its activities in that state.

1990’s

In September of 1990, Flow Systems Corporation, purchased by Hayes, was acquired to allow a horizontal (new products into existing markets) integration of meters and metering systems into the “pumps only” product line.

In June of 1994, in line with geographic expansion objectives, Hayes purchased the New Jersey sales office of Aurora Pump in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. The new company, operating as Hayes Pump, Inc. – Mid Atlantic-Operations, services the New York metropolitan area and the northern counties of New Jersey.

In January of 1995, the new operation purchased the pump division of Waco, Inc. located in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Waco was then merged into the existing operation in Saddle Brook.

On July 1, 1995, Hayes was appointed the exclusive distributor for Goulds Pumps, Inc. This agreement covers the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. This product line addition substantially improved the company’s market position and product offering in the chemical and pulp and paper industries.

In January 1996, Warren-Rupp granted Hayes exclusive distribution rights for its product line in the entire territory (New England and Mid-Atlantic). This addition positioned Hayes as the largest air operated diaphragm pump distributor in the Northeast.

In July 1997, we added Moyno Industrial Products. The assigned Moyno territory mirrors that of Goulds, and solidifies the company’s position in the pulp and paper and food processing markets.

In February of 1999 our efforts to expand the New Jersey branch resulted in the seamless acquisition of Muller Process Equipment Company, Inc. and significantly advanced Hayes’ presence and ability to serve customers in the New York/New Jersey area. Operations were consolidated in a new 20,000 square foot facility in Fairfield, NJ in September, 1999.

2000’s

In March 2000, IDEX Corporation selected Hayes Pump, Inc. to be its exclusive distributor for Viking Pumps in our Mid-Atlantic territory. This completed the consolidation of our top six product lines across the eight state northeast region.

Also in March 2000, Hayes completed the acquisitions of Eastflo, Inc. and J.N. DeVenuto, Inc. (formerly Metro Watertech). The Eastflo purchase strengthened our industrial position by consolidating the Moyno line of progressing cavity pumps throughout the Northeast and by adding a wide variety of complementary filters. Metro Watertech brought us the Fairbanks Morse product line in New York and New Jersey and firmly entrenched us in the Public Works municipal market segment.

In April 2000, Hayes Pump and Pace Industries, Inc. formed a partnership known as Pace Hayes Environmental, LLC. Our complimentary product lines for all municipal market segments and the added years of expertise and experience add great strength and focus to this growing market.

In August of 2004, Eric Zadravec was elected President and CEO of Hayes Pump Inc. by the Board of Directors. Later in 2005 Joe Larkin Sr. was promoted to Vice President and General Manager of the Mid-Atlantic Operations

In August 2008, Hayes Pump completed the acquisition of Atlantic Pump and Engineering Inc. in Sanford Maine. Hayes elected to continue operations under the name Atlantic Pump and Engineering given its strong brand recognition in the market. The acquisition of Atlantic added representation for ITT Gould’s and Moyno as well as several other key product lines. In addition Hayes acquired a physical presence in Maine as well as adding an experienced sales and support staff to the Hayes family.

In January of 2009, Joe Larkin Sr. was promoted to Executive Vice President of Hayes Pump Inc. With this promotion Joe was given responsibility for Sales for all of Hayes Pump Inc.

2010’s

In January 2011, Eric Zadravec and Joe Larkin Sr. purchased a controlling interest in Hayes Pump Inc. Working together with the remaining existing equity partners the company found a stable ownership group for the future stewardship of the company.

In January of 2013, the Executive Team of Eric Zadravec – President and CEO, Joe Larkin Sr.- Executive Vice President, and Elvis Cabral – Chief Financial Officer was formed.
